Is there anything better than a bag of salty chips on a much needed cheat day?
Now, if you’ve been around here long enough, you know that we’re not big fans of industrial seed oils (canola, corn, soybean, etc), as they have very high concentrations of Omega 6 fatty acids and very low concentrations of Omega 3 fatty acids, which can throw off your balance and cause inflammation.
The things is, these oils are used heavily in many processed foods, especially in our beloved chips.
But wait… what if there was a chip cooked in a vastly superior oil?
Well, my friend, allow me introduce you to Boulder Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper Kettle Cooked Chips.
These ain’t your regular ol’ chips.
These things here are cooked in 100% avocado oil, which is actually quite low in Omega 6 fatty acids.
Also, avocado oil is one of the healthiest oils on the planet and even comes with health benefits.
Avocado oil is so healthy, in fact, that the fine folks over in France use it as a prescription treatment for arthritis!
Whew, that was a lot of winning. Let’s chill for a second.
Now, the thing with avocado oil is that it doesn’t come from the seed.
It’s actually pressed straight from the fruit itself.
This means you get the beneficial fats that come from the humble avocado (an absolute superfood), and which are really some of the best fats you can consume.
With great fats, also come great benefits.
A short list of the benefits of avocado oil:
Great for your skin.
Avocado oil has lots of Vitamin E, and antioxidant that can help slow the aging process. You can also use it topically to nourish your largest organ (get your mind out of the gutter, the skin is the largest organ). The anti-inflammatory agents and antioxidants in avocado oil help calm, nourish, moisten, and protect the skin.
Can boost nutrient absorption.
Fats help your body absorb nutrients. When eaten with foods that have lots of carotenoid antioxidants, absorption is boosted 17-fold.
Can help prevent and treat lots of diseases and conditions (cardiovascular disease, arthritis, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc.).
Avocado oil is rich in monounsaturated fat (and especially rich in a very good monounsaturated fat: Oleic Acid), low in saturated fat, and has lots of antioxidants and minerals (like carotenoids) that can help keep your body healthy and working in proper order. Read more about the benefits of avocado and it’s oil here.
These are some BIG benefits from this powerful oil (also, if you’re not eating whole avocados already, you should probably get your hands on some!).
Now, with all this being said, should we rub these chips all over our faces while eating them like their going out of style?
I’m just illustrating how great avocado oil is, and how it makes a better chip for cheat food purposes. You should still enjoy them in moderation and use common sense, unless you’re looking to pack on a few pounds of body fat.
The Taste of the Matter
Common sense is pretty tough with these things though, because they’re addictive!
The sea salt and cracked pepper combine nicely for a satisfying and spicy crunch.
The actual chips are “Canyon Cut”, which is Boulder Canyon’s term for a thicker, “wavy” chip with ridges making them good for dips.
Indeed, these things burst with flavor, and each chip is nicely seasoned to perfection.
What I was surprised about is that they really don’t taste “healthier” than a regular chip, although ingredient-wise they are.
This is possibly because nutrient-wise they’re fairly high in fat, carbs, and sodium, just like regular chips.
All this means that even with the healthier ingredients they still shouldn’t be used as an everyday thing, but as a little cheat snack, I think you’ll be a-okay! 😉
If you really wanted to go all out on your cheat, they would make a great companion to a good dip, a grass-fed beef burger, or a lean turkey sandwich.
Where to Get ‘Em
You can get them locally at most grocery stores.
You can also get them on Amazon, here.
And lastly but not leastly another place you can get them is on the Boulder Canyon website.
That’ll do it.
I hope you enjoyed!
Until next time, take care, and CRUNCH ON my friends,
